Maltexco, formerly called Malterías Unidas S.A., has leading position in the agribusiness market, especially in Latin America, based on almost a century of tradition and the excellent quality of its products. Its modern plants, located in Chile’s central and southern zones, produce quality Malted Barley comparable to the best European malts, as well as Malt Extract, Specialty Malts an others malt related products for an increasingly- demanding international market.

The company was founded in 1916 by the Chadwick family and the mission of its founders since then has been a commitment to quality and superior service. From one generation to the next, its descendents persevere with this spirit and have placed Maltexco as a superior supplier of malted barley and its derivates to the Chilean and international food, brewing and beverage industries.

Over the years, the family had consolidated the malting business and created new business: Bottling Coca-Cola Polar (Chile, Argentina and Paraguay), Errazuriz and Caliterra Wineries, Distributor Errazuriz (liquor distributing company) and Austral Brewery.

1896 - "Malterías Talagante" is founded by the german brothers Llorens.

1916 - Malterías Talagante is acquired by the partnership formed by Ernesto and Teodoro Wagner and Alejandro Chadwick, naming the company as "Wagner, Chadwick y Cia”.

PRIN_FOTO01930 - Malt production capacity is increased from 2,000 tons to 18,000 tons per year.

1950 - New investments raise the malt production capacity up to 25,000 tons per year.

1960 - The company adopts its current name, "Malterías Unidas SA".

1975 - It begins the production of bread improvers based on malt flour.

1986 - The company acquires "Malteria Aconcagua" in Temuco, increasing the company’s total malt production capacity up to 50,000 ton per year.

2005 - Upgrade in Talagante’s Malt House increases the malt production capacity in 10,000 ton per year.

2006 - The company invests in a Malt Extract Plant located alongside Temuco’s Malt House. Its capacity is 10,000 ton of malt extract per year

2006 - It invests in new roasting line for the production of specialty malts, with a capacity of 1,700 ton per year.

2008 - Temuco’s malt house increases its capacity in 5,000 ton per year. Thus, the total malt production capacity of both malting houses reaches 65,000 tons per year.

2009 - Old mill is replaced for a new one, increasing the milling capacity up to 10,000 ton per year. This new line has also the capability of producing specialty flours, as caramel and roasted malt flours.

2009 - A new roasting equipment is installed, doubling the specialty malt production capacity (3,400 tons per year). It’s also installed a new line to produce Pearled Barley.

2011 - Maltexco acquired 100% of the shares of Agro Inversiones SA, passing thereby malting capacity above 100,000 tons / year.
